The Sims 3: It’s the final countdown

The headline may well give the impression that there is something far more important in the pipeline, but The Sims 3 creates enough of a buzz to deserve such recognition. The Sims franchise has garnered fans from all corners of the globe, reaching out to almost every age range, selling over 100 million units.
Now, a month before its third major release, can the Maxis franchise keep on winning? It certainly seems that way, despite a few mishaps here and there. EA delayed its release date several times, causing friction amongst its fans; and angered players when announcing the planned use of DRM-protection, an idea which it has now backed down on.
Not known as a thrill for hardcore gamers, it certainly has its own hardcore fanbase. Fans lovingly create their perfect homes, poring over every tiny detail or alternatively choose to delight in trapping their helpless Sim inside four small walls with a rocket. You know which sort of player you are.
It is the best-selling PC game of all time - a feat not to be reckoned with when considering that the PC is still the most popular way to play games. Can its success be replicated with the release of The Sims 3 on Friday 5th June, and will you be there at the front of the queue at midnight?
